Joseph Fields "Joe" Barbee
Mr. Joseph "Joe" Fields Barbee, 69, of 210 W. Main Street,
Mooresboro, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at home. A native of Virginia, he was
the son of the late Horace Fields Barbee and Julia Duval Barbee of Greenville,
NC. Mr. Barbee graduation from White Oak High School in 1958 and from
Appalachian State University in 1964. He retired from the Shelby City Schools
where he taught for 30 years. He also loved painting and was always helping
people. He could fix anything and loved working on lawnmowers and tractors. He
was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church where he was actively involved, serving
as a deacon. He also adored being beloved "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren. He
actively followed the various activities, particularly sporting events, that his
grandchildren pursued.
In addition to his mother, Julia Duval Barbee, he is survived by his beloved
wife, Shirley Green Barbee; his sons, Tony Barbee of Huntersville, Chuck Barbee
and his wife, Tiffany, of Lawndale, and by Michael Barbee and his wife,
Harriett, of Columbia, SC; a brother, Burke Barbee and his wife, Betty, of
Greenville, also survive him. He is also survived by five grand-children,
Cameron and Connor Barbee of Lawndale and Mackensie, Merideth and Mallorie of
Columbia, SC.
Service: Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 3:30 p.m. at Sandy Run Baptist Church in
Mooresboro.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:30 prior to the
service.
Burial: church cemetery
