Cynthia Wray
Mrs. Cynthia Ann Grice Wray, 72, of
309 Windsor Drive
in Shelby, died on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Hospice
at Wendover. A native of
Cleveland
County, she was the daughter of the
late James Pressley Grice, Jr. and Margaret Virginia Warlick Grice.
Mrs. Wray attended Meredith
College in
Raleigh,
NC and studied bookkeeping at a business
college in Shelby, NC.
As a young adult, she worked in the mortgage loan department with
Wachovia Bank & Trust in Winston-Salem,
NC and then briefly worked for First
National Bank of Shelby.
Subsequently, Mrs. Wray worked as a legal assistant for her husband’s law
office and continued in this capacity until her retirement.
Beginning at the age of 7, she began piano lessons and continued these
throughout high school. As an
adult, she furthered her piano studies for a year and a half at
Gardner-Webb
University.
One of her true joys was playing and listening to solo piano music.
Mrs. Wray was a devoted wife and mother and delighted in spending time
with her three grandchildren.
Mrs. Wray is survived by her beloved husband, Charles
William Wray, Jr. of Shelby; by two
daughters, Mary Wray Henshaw and her husband Gregory of Winston-Salem and Anne
Wray Sale and her husband Lowell of Boiling Springs; by a brother, James P.
Grice, Jr. and his wife Donna of Wilmington,
NC; by her grandchildren, Sarah Stuart
Henshaw, William Wray Henshaw, and Patrick Lowell Sale.
She is also survived by a nephew, James P. Grice, III; by a niece, Susan
Grice Brady; and by four great nieces.
Frances Wright, her beloved caregiver, also survives her.
A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Wray will be held on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Central
United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Craig Langston
officiating. The family will
receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
The family will be at the home, 309 Windsor
Drive, at other times.
