Hazel Olsby

Hazel Winifred Olsby, 80, died December 4, 2009 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She was born in Ft. Lauderdale Florida to the late Melvin Edgar and Alice Darlow Olsby.      She retired from Cleveland County Schools as a Media Specialist.  She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.  She served on the board of the Life Enrichment Center of Shelby, was a member of Cleveland County Historical Society, the Cleveland County Humane Society, the Chicora Club and a volunteer at Shelby Presbyterian Church Food Ministry.   She had a love of animals; she enjoyed walking and spending time with her family and visiting the elderly.     In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her former husband, Joe D. Hege Sr., and her brother-in-law, Dick Rosberg.       Hazel is survived by her daughters:  Alice Hege Matthews and  Chris of Garner, NC, and Vi Hege Greene and husband Dale of Shelby, her son, Luke Hege and wife Kathy of Shelby, her sister, Jane O. Rosberg of Shelby.  Her loving grandchildren:  Matthew Hege of Atlanta, GA, Joel Hege and Laura Hege of Boone, Drew Greene of Charlotte, NC, Patrick Greene of Shelby and Barry Matthews of Garner, N. C.       

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 4:30 pm in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Cecil M.
