Max Wallace Sr.
Mr.
Max Lee Wallace Sr., 86, of 1205 B Northgate Drive, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009,
at Hospice Cleveland County. He was born in Cleveland County, son of the late
Robert and Ada Hardin Wallace. Max served in the Air Force during World War II
in India. He retired after 40 years of service with First National Bank of
Shelby as a teller supervisor. He was a member of Lafayette Street United
Methodist Church and former usher. He was a member of the VFW and served as
quartermaster and member of the Shelby Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer and
enjoyed fishing and loved wildlife. He cherished the time spent with his wife,
children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by his wife, Lallage Wallace; and brother, Herman Wallace. He is survived by his
wife, Peggy Hicks Wallace of Shelby; son, Lee Wallace and wife, Ela, of
Southington, Conn.; step-sons, Steve Shytle and wife, Dianne, of Gastonia, Todd
Shytle and wife, Mandy, and Joel Shytle and wife, Dianne, of Charlotte;
step-daughter, Janet Bowman of Shelby; sister, Margaret Greene of Shelby;
grandchildren, David Wallace of Boston, Mass., and Jon Wallace of Manhattan,
N.Y.; five step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
Funeral: Friday, July 10, 3 p.m., Lafayette Street United Methodist Church Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday, 1:30 to 3 p.m., before the service, in the church sanctuary.
Burial: Cleveland Memorial Park Officiated by: Dr. Tom Steagald and Rev. Owen Peeler
