Jack Young
M/Sgt. Jack D. Young, Ret., 75, of 134 Hillcrest Drive, died
Sunday, July 19, 2009, at UNC Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill.
He was born in Mitchell County, a son of the late Clarence and Tempie Thomas
Young. He graduated from Gardner-Webb University with a Bachelor of Science
degree. Jack retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant after 24 � years
serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from Dixie Industrial
Supply after 15 years as purchasing manager and from Salem Tool after seven
years as director of purchasing. He attended Boiling Springs Baptist Church and
Boiling Springs United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golf, fishing, traveling and
spending time with family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Hunt
Young; daughter, Donna Ann Young Farmer and husband, David Paul, of Asheville;
brother, Phil Douglas Young of Morganton; grandchildren, Michael Shawn Farmer of
Bakersville and Alysha Leanne Farmer of Boiling Springs; great-grandchildren,
Brookelynn and Shawn Farmer; and a very special friend, Leigh Russell.
Memorial Service: Wednesday, July 22, 7 p.m., Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home
Chapel
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service, at the
funeral home and other times the family will be at the home.
