John Ivory
Mr.
John Maurice Ivory, 62, of 3929 Melshire Lane, in Charlotte and formerly of
Shelby, died on Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at home.
A native of Washington DC, he was the son of the late Johnny Ivory and Carrie
McKnight and was raised by Levy McKnight, who he lovingly referred to as "Pop".
Mr. Ivory loved working with his hands and enjoyed watching cowboy movies.
Mr. Ivory is survived by his son, Christopher Ivory and his wife, Sherri, of
Boynton Beach, Fla.; daughter, Dana Ivory-Howard of Boynton Beach; brothers,
Esque Ivory of Long Island, N.Y., Love McKnight of New York, N.Y., and Levy
McKnight of Maryland; sisters, Deborah Ouattara of North Carolina, Carol Riddick
of North Carolina, Darlene VanWart of Long Island, N.Y., Janice McKnight of
Maryland and Denise Blackshire of Pennsylvania; one sister-in-law; four
brothers-in-law; grandchildren, Maleek Jackson, Zaire Ivory, Najae Ivory Isaiah
Howard, Elijah Howard; great-grandchild, Malasia Jackson; former wife, Sheila
Ivory of Boynton Beach; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was affectionately
known to his grandchildren as "Big Daddy".
Funeral: Saturday, Aug. 8, 11 a.m., Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service, at the
funeral home.
