Larry G. Ware
Mr.
Larry G. Ware passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Wake Forest University
Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Larry lived a life of determination,
optimism and never met a stranger. He was a beloved husband, father,
grandfather, son, brother and friend. He grew up in Shelby and greatly loved the
Shelby community and Cleveland County, both of which he served for most of his
life. Larry served on the Shelby City Council, was a member of The Shelby
Masonic Lodge No. 744, a member of Oasis Shrine Temple and on the board of the
Shelby Parks and Rec for more than 20 years. He was proudly a founding member of
the Shelby High School Football Supper Club and was well known as the announcer
of the Shelby Golden Lions home football games. Larry spent the past 21 years as
a magistrate serving Cleveland County and served in the past as president of the
NC Magistrates Association. He was a past member of the Board of Directors for
both North Carolina Magistrates Association as well as the State Employees
Credit Union. Larry was a founding member of the Oasis Piedmont Pistons. In the
past he coached youth baseball, basketball and football. He was also a member of
the Shelby Presbyterian Church. Larry was well known for his many civic
contributions, but it is his wonderful sense of humor and determined spirit that
will never let him be forgotten. The family would like to express their great
appreciation to all of the doctors and nurses who have cared for Larry over the
past year and a half. They would also like to thank friends of the family for
their support, love and especially prayers. Larry is survived by his loving
family, his wife, Linda Toms Ware; son, Lance Ware and daughter-in-law,
Catherine; grandsons, Reece Ware and Stockton Ware; son, Luke and special
friend, Mary Sherill; mother, Lynette Jones and special friend, Dennis Beam;
brother, Scott Ware and wife, Jennifer, and children Courtney and Clayton; step
mother, Donnis Canipe Ware; along with many close and loving friends. Larry was
preceded in death by his father, N. K. Ware. The family will receive friends at
Cecil M. Burton's Funeral Home Saturday, July 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial
service to celebrate Larry's life will be held at Malcolm Brown Auditorium on
Sunday, July 12, at 3 p.m., with Dr. Luke Harkey and Rev. Allen Huff, with
burial to follow at Sunset Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Memorials may be sent to
