– May 23, 2009
Mr. Jefferson M. Connor: 91, of 711 Westover Terrace, died Saturday May 23, 2009 at Alhambra House in South San Francisco, CA.
Jeff was born in Greenville, S.C., to the late J.M. Connor, Sr., and Helen May Wells. He was raised in Shelby, but lived for 33 years in Adelphi, Md. He retired to Shelby in 1983. He served in the Army Air Corp in North Africa and Italy during WWII, but Jeff was a gentle man in all respects. He loved opera, big band music, and a glass of dry red wine. He always regretted that he never attended college, but was well-educated, followed current events avidly, and had a sophisticated grasp of world affairs. He was a life-long democrat who wished that government would apply the principles he learned through his faith of charity, generosity, and inclusiveness to public policy. He worked in electronics for his career and seemed to be able to fix anything. He was a past president of the Shelby Veterans of Foreign Wars, and past president of the Optimist Club of Shelby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers, his son J.M. Connor III, and his wife Doris Martin Connor. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Edward F. Connor and Sharon Xu and grandchildren Gabriel and Coco all from San Francisco; a sister-in-law Mary Sue Olsen of Shelby: a sister-in-law, Dee Martin of Knoxville, TN. and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
