Jim Singleton

 

 

Mr. James “Jim” Miles Singleton, 84, of Dora Circle, passed away on November 9, 2009 at Hospice Cleveland County.  Jim was born on February 17, 1925 in Oconee, SC to the late Miles Calhoun and Eula McAlister Singleton.     

Jim served in the US Army during World War II.  He worked for Burlington Industries for 44 years and retired from Minnette Mills as a machine operator.  He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and a former deacon.  He was a member of the Gastonia VFW and The Last Mans Club.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.     In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers;  Harold and Jack Singleton, and a daughter:  Kathy Singleton.   

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Hazel Beatty Singleton, sons:  Mike Singleton and wife Glenda of Gastonia, Steve Singleton and wife Ellen of Clover, SC, and step-son Jim McNeilly and wife Tammy of Kings Mountain, his daughter: Carolyn Jones and husband Ronnie of Gastonia. His brother, Clayton Singleton and wife Dora of Shelby and sisters: Jonell Beatty and husband Jack of Gastonia and Margie Norwood of Clemmons, NC.  His loving grandchildren:  Leslie Postell and husband Steve, Scott Jones and wife Melanie, Michael Singleton and wife Leighann, Rodney Singleton, Stevie Singleton and step-grandchildren:  Brittany and Kaitlyn McNeilly and eight great- grandchildren and one great great grandchild.  

Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 12,2009  at l2:00 pm in the Chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Jameson Williams and Rev. Gary Marburger.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory.    The family will be at the home of Jim McNeilly at 4810 Barrett Road, Kings Mountain.
