Edward
Quesnel of Shelby, NC formally of Plattsburgh, NY passed away on Sunday October
4, 2009 after a courageous battle with heart disease. He was born on February
28, 1929 in a farmhouse in Brandon, Vermont. He was one of eleven children of
Joseph and Lydia Quesnel. He was raised to be a hard worker on his parent’s
farm which led to various jobs across the country ranging from a lumberjack to a
medic. He served in the Army under General McArthur in the Korean War. He met
and married the love of his life Rita Agnew Quesnel in 1952. They were happily
married for 57 years. They owned and operated the Adirondack Hotel in
Keeseville NY for a number of years. He then worked as an engineer and surveyor
for various contractors. He retired from O’Brien and Gere Engineers of Syracuse
NY after 21 years of service. He enjoyed traveling and gardening and was
an avid sportsman. He loved entertaining friends and family. He was known as
the “Miracle Man” which strengthened his faith in God. In 2005, Edward and Rita
moved to Shelby NC to Forest Glen Senior Complex, where they were welcomed with
open arms by the community and treated like family. He is survived by his wife
Rita Quesnel of Shelby NC and his 6 children; his son Daniel Quesnel of
Plattsburgh NY, his daughter Sherry Tipton and Fiancé Jeff Gerhardt of Bismarck,
ND, his son William and his wife Cheri Quesnel of Ellenburg Ctr, NY., his son
Mark and his wife Annette Quesnel of Ellenburg Ctr, NY, his daughter Linda
Quesnel and Jerry Roberts of Point Au Roche, NY and his daughter Jolene and her
husband Scott Adams of Mount Holly, NC.In addition he is survived by fourteen
grandchildren with one due in February 2010 and four great grandchildren with
one due in May 2010. He is also survived by his two brothers Arthur Quesnel of
Lakeland, FL and Hector Quesnel of West Chazy, NY.1
Funeral services are scheduled at Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church in
Shelby, NC on Wednesday Oct 7th at 4:00pm with visitation from 3-4 prior to the
service.
Graveside service with military honors will be held at St. Peters Cemetery
in Plattsburgh NY at 11:00am on Saturday, October 10th.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hoyle
Memorial United Methodist Church in memory of Edward D. Quesnel, 1741 Fallston
