John Farrell O'Leary
Mr.
John "Jack" Farrell O'Leary, 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 19,
2009, at Hospice Cleveland County. He was born on April 16, 1930, in Rome, Ga.,
to the late Joseph Aloysius O'Leary Sr. and Lucy Millican O'Leary. He moved with
his family from Rome, Ga., to Shelby in 1931. He was a very devoted son, beloved
brother and loyal friend. He attended University of NC at Chapel Hill, served in
the Navy during the Korean War and continued his education at Gardner Webb
University. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He was former
owner and operator of Shelby Seafood. He was an avid gardener, loved to cook,
enjoyed fishing and working cross word puzzles. In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Joseph A. O'Leary Jr.; and
brother-in-law, A. Pitt Beam Jr. He is survived by his loving sisters, Anne
O'Leary Beam of Hendersonville, Catherine O'Leary Bradshaw and husband, Bill, of
Lake Zurich, Ill., and Susan Millican O'Leary of Gastonia; sister-in-law,
Phoebie Littlefield O'Leary of Eden; aunt, Evelyn M. Moore of Rome, Ga.; many
loving nieces, nephews and cousins; and very devoted friends, Dolores and Billy
Ridings, Mary and Tracy Pressley, Karen Costner, Zeb Whitener and Stephen
Whitener and their families. The family would like to express a special thanks
to Dr. James Potts and staff of Hospice Cleveland County for the care given to
their brother during his illness, as well as home caregivers Jan, Darlene and
Akira. Graveside Service: Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2 p.m., Sunset Cemetery with
military honors Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, 12:30 to
