What Do I Do After The Funeral

 

Death Certificates:

Death Certificates may be obtained from the Register of Deeds in the county in which the deaths occurred.  Allow 5 to 10 working days for the Death Certifies to be filed and copies to become available. They are $10.00 each from any county in North Carolina, but may vary in other states.  Most financial transactions over $500, will require a certified copy.  The office of the Cleveland County Register of Deeds is located in the Cleveland County Administration Building, 311 West Marion Street Shelby NC. Call ahead to see if they are available 704-484-4906.

Social Security:

We have already notified Social Security of the death.  However you will still need too make an appointment to determine if you are eligible for a $255 survivor’s benefit or any other benefits. The Social Security Office is located at 707 Schenck Street Shelby. 1-800-772-1213 or 704-480-6202.

Probating the Will:

Call and make an appointment with the Clerk of Court to “Probate the Will” 704-484-4868.  They will give you the details about the procedures to follow. The Clerk of Court is located on the first floor of the Cleveland County Court House.

Veteran’s Benefits:

All honorably discharged veterans are entitled to a flag and a grave marker. With a copy of the Discharge or DD form 214 or other proof of service, we will procure the flag for you.  Grave markers are ordered through the local VA office.  Some veterans are entitled additional death benefits.  Call the Veterans Administration Service Officer for an appointment. 704-484-4803. Insurance Claims:

We will be glad to assist you in filing any life insurance.  We have most of the major insurance company’s claim forms on file and will make them available to you if you need them.
