Ann Hadley Melton, 65, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Hospice of Wendover.  She was the daughter of William Fredrick and Ruby Mitchell Williams Hadley.  She was also preceded in death by a son, James William Apple; grandson, Jake Apple; and aunt, Annie Boyd Hadley.  Mrs. Melton was employed with C. A. Short Company for thirty years.  She was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Shelby.She is survived by her loving husband, William Melton; four sons, David Apple and wife Katie of Gastonia, Tim Melton and wife Sarah of Savannah, GA, William Melton, Jr. and Troy Melton of Wichita Falls, TX; a daughter Christine Couch and husband Grey of Wichita Falls, TX; sister, Jean Quinn of Piedmont, AL; eleven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Shelby.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:30 prior to the service.  The Rev. Dick Hood will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial be sent to Relay for Life, c/o C. A. Short Company, Attn. Human Resources, 4205 East Dixon Blvd, Shelby, NC 28152.
