Shelby Mr. Carl Gold
Martin, age 89, of 1219 Metcalf Road, died
Sunday October 30, 2011 at Crawley Memorial
Hospital. Born in Rutherford County on March 27,
1922 he was the son of the late Marcus and
Mittie Gold Martin. In addition to his parents,
he is preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie
Clark Martin; a brother, Randolph Martin; and a
sister, Margaret Barnhart. Carl retired after 44 years
as a supervisor with Bell South Telephone
Company, now (AT&T), and was a member of First
Baptist Church where he was a member of the
Crusaders Sunday School Class. He served in the
U.S. Navy during WWII and received the
Asiatic-Pacific medal with 8 battle stars. He
also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean
Conflict and received the Philippine Liberation
Medal. Mr. Martin is survived by
his wife of 35 years, Louise “Weasy” Horn
Martin; three sons, Mike Martin and wife Jo of
Greer SC, Tim Martin and wife Carol of Fort
Collins Colorado, and Mal Martin and wife
Melinda of Raleigh. Four Step-daughters,
Patricia Noggle and husband Danny, Elizabeth
“Bit” Ray and husband Dwayne, and Jane Hamrick
all of Shelby and Kathy Condie and husband Scott
of Ridgeland SC.; a brother, George Martin and
wife Katheryn of Shelby; twelve grandchildren
and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be
held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 11:00 am
in the Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church with
Rev. Tony Tench officiating. Other times the
family will be at the home. Private burial will
be held at Zion Baptist Church. Memorials can be made to charity of the donor’s choice. |
