Viola Owens Walters, 90, formerly of Kenwood Drive but lived with her daughter in Statesville, NC, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011. She was the daughter of the late W. R. and Elizabeth McCollum Owens. She was also preceded in death by her husband Ray Walters, R.; nine brothers and one sister.She was a member of Second Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She loved the Lord, had a good sense of humor and enjoyed playing basketball in high school and playing softball in the summer.

She is survived by her sons, Ray Walters, Jr. and wife Samie of Shelby, Carl Walters and wife Elaine of Shelby; a daughter, Loretta Jean Benfield and husband Coite of Statesville; three grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. The Rev. Bill Mason will be officiating. Burial Will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00pm prior to the service.
