Margaret Noles Walker,
85, passed away on Sunday, February 12,
2012. She was a homemaker and volunteer known
for her sense of humor. She was the
youngest child of the late James Ernest Noles
and Essie Austin Noles of Nebo, and the beloved
niece of the late Julia Banner Noles Stone and
W.G. Stone, who raised her in Belmont. She
attended Belmont High School, Sacred Heart
Junior College, and the Nursing School at Grace
Memorial Hospital in Morganton before marrying
Charles Walker in 1946. She and Charlie moved
to New York City, where they had four children.
In 1972,
they retired to Kings Mountain, where they were
very active in the Senior Center. Mr. Walker
died in 1992, and Mrs. Walker later became one
of the first residents of Sterling House in
Shelby. She leaves behind many friends in both
places. Mrs. Walker is survived
by daughters Janice Walker Truelove, Ann Walker
Hurley and Karen Walker Sugarman, son Charles
Walker III, sons-in-law Joe Truelove and Ray
Hurley, as well as nine grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and
cousins, and one sister, Shirley Noles
Morgan. She was predeceased by seven sisters
and five brothers. In lieu of flowers,
gifts in her honor may be made to the Boys and
Girls Club of Cleveland County, P O Box 2001,
Shelby, NC, 28151. The family will receive
friends at the Cecil Burton Funeral Home on
Tuesday, February 14, 2012 from 6:00 to 7:30
PM. The celebration of her life will be held in
the same location on Wednesday, February 15
at 11 AM; burial will follow at Gaston Memorial
Park. |
