Marty Carter, 58, passed away at the Wendover Hospice Center on October 13, 2011. Marty was born in Pikeville, KY and raised in Michigan but called Shelby home. 

Marty is survived by Debbie, his wife of 40 years, son Joe and daughter-in-law Kelli of Shelby, and daughter, Kristy, of Asheville, NC.  The youngest of seven children, Marty is preceded in death by his mom, dad and three brothers and is survived by two sisters and a brother and a large extended family.  Much to his dismay, Marty was only blessed with four-legged grandchildren.

Marty spent most of his life working on cars and trucks; those who knew him will tell you that he could fix or build just about anything.  Marty’s children are grateful for the care Debbie provided to Marty during his extended illness. 

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00pm on Sunday, October 23, 2011at the Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelby.  Memorials can be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC  28150.
