Noel Jarvis McGinnis age 88, formerly of Sterling House, died Saturday Nov. 5, 2011, at Hospice of Cleveland County.  Born on May 3, 1923, in Lincoln County he was the son of the late Arthur Carl and Ottie Hagar McGinnis.  In addition to his parents, Mr. McGinnis is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Roberts McGinnis; four sisters, Miriam Lineberger, Lillian Bolick, Louise Beal, Jeanette Wilkinson; four brothers, Broadus McGinnis, Judd McGinnis, Benny McGinnis, and Jimmy McGinnis; a grandson, Rodney Tyler McGinnis; and daughter in law, Kathy Wood McGinnis. Mr. McGinnis was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church and was a former commander of the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and also served in the European and Pacific Theaters. He enjoyed hunting and riding motorcycles and was a retired inspector with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Mr. McGinnis is survived by a daughter; Yvonne McGinnis Rollins of Shelby; two sons, Rodney Noel McGinnis and wife Kim of Shelby, and Wayne Lee McGinnis of Winston Salem; a brother, Kermit McGinnis and wife Carolyn of Charlotte; a special friend, Doris Gorman of Shelby; former son in law, Wayne “Sarge” Rollins of Shelby; five grandson, David Rollins of San Diego CA, Joshua Rollins of Shelby, Matthew McGinnis and wife Carmen of Rock Hill SC, Brandon Johnson and wife Mary of Charlotte, and Matthew Johnson of Shelby.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service in the sanctuary. Other time the family will be at the home of Rodney and Kim McGinnis, 3035 Longwood Drive Shelby

Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elizabeth Baptist Church
