Dr. Patricia “Pat” Woodward Partin, 73, passed
away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at Sterling House of Shelby. A native of Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late John Floyd and Pauline Willis Woodward. She was Professor Emerita of Psychology and Education at Gardner-Webb University, where she managed the graduate counselor’s education program. Dr. Partin earned her B.A. from Wake Forest, an M.Ed. from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a doctorate in counseling psychology from Duke University. Pat was a teacher, a school counselor and a college professor. For eight years, she taught in a graduate counselor education program at North Dakota State University. She was active in state and national professional organizations in a variety of roles including being elected president of counseling organizations in two states. She was recognized for her work in government relations and counselor licensure on the national and state levels and received major service awards from counseling organizations in both North Dakota and North Carolina. Dr. Partin is survived by her sister, Gail Kleiman of Durham; nephews, Richard Kleiman and wife Rachel of Powder Springs, Ga., and David Kleiman and wife Jenny of Durham; and a niece, Debbi of Chicago. A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Dover Chapel on the Gardner-Webb University campus. Dr. Tracy Jessup will be officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Visitation: The family will receive friends Tuesday immediately following the service.
